Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, both born in 1969, founded their East London studio in 1996, after studying architecture together at the Royal College of Art. Since that time their work has challenged the boundaries of design, while their commitment to lecturing, workshops and studio practice supports the development of new generations of designers. Barber and Osgerby’s approach is characterised by its emphasis on experimentation and innovation and an exploratory attitude to materiality and colour. Their work encompasses architecture, interiors, sculpture, product and exhibition design.

London-based designers Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby's collection of works, Ascent, is inspired by 'hidden' design found in aeronautical engineering, with many forms reminiscent of the internal structures of wings and foils.
Photographer Peter Mallet was commissioned to capture the collection as well as a series of studio maquettes and preparatory drawings, which are presented throughout the book. The book cover, in grey linen, is blind embossed with a framework graphic with type foil-stamped in white. Ascent is foil-stamped in gold on the reverse cover.
