Curated by Elena Geuna, Afro Burri Fontana brought together three important post-war Italian painters, focusing on their innovative early years nurtured during a time of great cultural exchange between Italy and the United Sates.

The typography used on the cover and section breaks was hand-painted and, in the case of the cover, printed on a fabric cover material. Throughout the book black and white photography by Ugo Mulas punctuates the essay and plates.
